FAQ

Am I eligible / Can I become a member?

Volunteer Action accepts members from the catchment area who do not have reasonable access to other transport and who are aged 65 years or over, or are living with a disability. If you are not sure if you qualify as a member, please contact the VA office.

As a local charity, our catchment area we serve includes the towns of Oundle and Thrapston and the villages from Easton-on-the-Hill in the North and Titchmarsh in the South. You must live within the catchment area to use our services. Please see our Community Car Scheme page for a full list of the villages that we serve.

What Does it Cost? Is the service free?

We offer a befriending service which is free but there are eligibility criteria for this scheme. Take a look at our Befriending page for more information.

We do charge for our community transport scheme, to become a member you can choose between 12 month membership at £24 annually, or a temporary 6 month Membership at £12. We operate with volunteer drivers. They volunteer their time, but we ask that you cover their driving expenses. We charge a minimum fee of £4.00 and we calculate the cost based on a 45p per mile charge. Each completed journey is subject to a £1 Booking Fee.

What types of journeys are offered?
We will drive you to medical and health appointments of all kinds, to therapy sessions, to fitness classes, to visit family and friends, or to go shopping. However, medical drives always take priority.
